Goonhammer Patron Hobby Roundup: December 2021 – Part 2

As promised, here is the second half of our December patron hobby round-up. If you missed part one, you can find it here. I hope you all enjoy checking out these models as much as I did!

I’ve done a bunch of Malifaux crews, super hype to see the game on Goonhammer!

I’m also continuing the Necroslog with Redemptionists & Green Goblins.

This is the first part of my Hunter Clade Kill Team. I was inspired by How To Paint Everything: Synthwave and decided to do it solely with an airbrush to practice my skills.

My first try at OSL and pretty happy with the results so far. Next step is to add in some Sicarians, and maybe trying my hand at a diorama/army on parade in this style in 2022.

Finished a squad of mandrakes for my Drukhari army. The purple robes will match with the rest of my army, as purple is the main cloth color. The orange was to add a pop of color to help offset the white and grey hair and body. For older resin models, I think they came out quite well!

The white on the base is supposed to be snow, but no matter what I do with my camera/lighting, it just shows up as a white blob.

I’ve spent most of the time since the last one of these diving into the underhive. Fellow patron Swiftblade gave me his spare Goliaths so that I would paint them up and he could repeatedly throw flashbang grenades at them. Here’s Gorgeous George and the crew, most of whom are named after 1800’s circus strongmen.

To fit their turn of the century strongman theme, I meticulously sculpted moustaches on most of them. We’re running Dan’s Lost Zone rules, and currently my gang’s territories include both a Slop House and a Drinking Hole. Big Angus and his magnificent facial hair here is the bouncer at Gorgeous George’s Bar & Grill.

I also painted an Ambot, even though it’s extremely unlikely in the Lost Zone that I’ll actually be able to recruit one. I just needed an excuse to play with chipping medium.

Lastly, work on my Sororitas continues at a plodding pace.

Hoo boy, because I am stupid when I heard we were doing another Patreon roundup, I thought to myself “Man, I bet that group shot’s really going to make me feel good since it’s all my progress since April”. That stupid optimism lasted about 2 minutes until I checked how many things I’d painted since then, and was replaced with slightly higher than usual amounts of self loathing. Still, I’m fairly happy with what I’ve gotten done, although if I’m going to make it to GHO I’m really going to need to buckle down over the next couple months.

The model I’m most proud of was a Tor Garadon kitbash I did as a counts-as Plasma Pistol/Fist Primaris Captain for my homebrew chapter, the Hounds of Alemannia. This guy was a lot of fun to paint, and I’ve been finding myself taking more and more risks on things I haven’t tried before. He has a prominent fur cloak I made from greenstuff, is the first dark skinned model I’ve painted, and represents the most conversion work I’ve done on a model, albeit those conversions mostly being scraping off IF iconography without it looking like a COMPLETE hackjob.

I really like alternate schemes for veteran units, so I immediately decided these Eradicators were going to be the first 1st Company unit I did for my fledgling Hounds. The chapter is, unbeknownst to them, one of Cawl’s wink wink nod nod I totally didn’t use Traitor geneseed chapters, and are DEFINITELY NOT a Sons of Horus successor, and I love the 16th’s actual scheme so much I figured I’d just straight rip it off for the 1st Company dudes. The Hound’s 1st Company differs from other chapters in that instead of being say, the best and the brightest working their way to command roles, the Hounds just populate it with the dead ‘ardest lads whose only skills are killing and are definitely seen as not being management material. I tried to reflect that vibe by having them lean harder into the barbaric Alemanni culture even more, and it was super fun looking at historical artbooks and watching Heilung music videos for face-paint ideas.

I’ve been trying to get into Necromunda forever, and finally started my Orlocks gang. Had a ton of fun with them since I’ve started practicing doing more gradual blends and gradients on cloth, and I’m really happy with how it makes the cloth parts of the model look more natural but also pop more (cannot wait to revisit my Dark Angels with all those robes). They’re Muppet themed, so here we got left-to-right Fozzy, Mizz Piggee, Kermit, Ani Moll, and Swedosh Chof.

My Delaque gang! They are called the Cult of the Azure King. A corrupted sect of House Delaque who worship the Architect of Fate and allow themselves to be corrupted by the warp.
